The Creative Boston, Massachusetts 2023 Stainless-steel, LEDs, concrete 8’ x 6.5’ x 7’ on an 8” plinth On the corner of Van Ness & Ipswich St., right across from an entrance to Fenway Park. It was commissioned by the City of Boston for the new facility of the Boston Arts Academy (Boston's first and only high school for the visual and performing arts). We noted that demographically the school’s population was primarily students of color. We also know that images of young black women are underrepresented in public art. Thus, we worked with student representatives to determine the visage of a young woman daydreaming of all the creative possibilities that her future could hold. The sculpture is made of layers of laser-cut perforated stainless steel creating moiré patterns (our innovation within this technique of fabrication), with the intent of creating a mesmerizing effect.
