Cairns Tucson, Arizona 2012 Granite boulders, steel, concrete Separate totems up to 12’ x 5’ x 5’
"Cairns" is meant to simply be a large-scale version of the stone markers seen along trails in many cultures. It is also to evoke associations with the nearby Texas Canyon's natural rock formations in the Chirichua Mountains of Arizona. The intent is to create a perilous looking balancing act that seemingly defies gravity. Large, locally found granite boulders are stacked upon one another creating three separate totemic form sculptures. There are neighboring carved boulders to be used as seating.
