Boulders Marana, Arizona 2013 Steel, cacti Boulder # 1: Height 9’, Width 13’, Depth 9’6” Boulder # 2: Height 6’6”’, Width 9’, Depth 7’ Boulder # 3: Height 4’6”, Width 6’6”, Depth 4’ “Boulders” are meant to emulate the backdrop of the Catalina Mountains by their rock- like appearance and their angular forms. The two larger “boulders” also function as planters with cacti seemingly growing out of their “crevices”. There are three complex, multi-faceted forms made from welded 3/16” thick, rusted steel plates. In actuality they are all the same rock, just at three different scales and orientations in placement. They contain 24” diameter culverts filled with soil hidden within. The largest contains a “toothpick cactus”, the medium–golden cholla.
